James Victore is a self-taught, independent artist and designer. His work ranges from publishing, posters and advertising to illustration and animation. His design clients including Moet & Chandon, Aveda, Apple, Yohji Yamamoto, Yamaha, The New York Times, and The School of Visual Arts. Awards include an Emmy for television animation, a Broadcast Designers Association Gold Medal, the Grand Prix from the Brno Biennale (Czech Republic), and Gold and Silver Medals from the New York Art Director’s Club. Victore’s designs are in the permanent collections of the Palais du Louvre, Paris, the Library of Congress, Washington, DC and the Museum für Gestaltung, Zurich among others. His work is regularly featured in magazines around the world, and recently a book of his design work was published in China. He teaches graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He lives, loves and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Nine young female graduates from VCU School of the Arts in Qatar teamed up to form the ambitious multi-disciplinary design company Folio House. The team’s strategy was to initially launch their own fashion line YD09, the first ever fashion brand from Qatar, before expanding into interior and graphic design.

Richmond/Qatar Charette

Recently, an idea exchange, called a charette, took place between Richmond and Qatar faculty and students. Five design faculty members from VCU School of the Arts in Qatar visited Richmond and three design and one Kinetic Imaging faculty members from Richmond went to Qatar. Additionally, approximately 100 students from Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design and Merchandising, and Kinetic Imaging in Richmond and 45 from Doha, Qatar took part.

Students were given a project for which they had four days to research and develop a solution.

The purpose of the charette was to explore and experience the process of collaboration and interaction, and to bring faculty and students from both campuses closer together.

Theatre VCU presents “Volume of Smoke” at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts Sept. 28-29 and Oct. 4-6 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. Based on eyewitness accounts of a historic tragedy that inspired a nationwide religious revival, “Volume of Smoke” is a beautiful, moving and surprisingly funny journey into the heart of disaster.
