Augenhöle: An Exploration in Prosthetic Eyes
Sean Donlon
On View: December 1–3, 2012
Fine Arts Building | 2nd floor, Room 217
1000 W. Broad St., Richmond
Sean Donlon, student of Craft/Material studies, traveled to Luascha, Germany to learn the art of glass eye blowing, an art used to make medical prosthetics and realistic eyes for taxidermy animals in museums. This practice is a lost art, not taught in the United States. A video was made documenting the teachings of Walter Hellbach (a third generation glass blower) to share with students in the glass program.
Donlon received an undergraduate research grant last year totaling $3000. His faculty mentor is Professor Emilio Santini.
