VCU Department of Sculpture + Extended Media presents:

Nancy Lupo, 2011–12 Fountainhead Fellow
Tuesday, November 22 | 5:15 PM
Fine Arts Building, Crit Room 3, First Floor
1000 W. Broad Street, Richmond

Nancy Lupo’s work forces a collision between forms and objects that already exist in the world and others that exist only in the imagination.  Dog feeders, change, ball chain, semi-transparent colors, and all variety of containers and catch-alls are embedded into solid shapes that are often (also) useable as furniture.  The decision-making is at once in plain sight and coded.  The work unfolds slowly and euphorically in the manner of a rebus where materials take the place of pictures, letters and symbols.

Nancy Lupo was born in Flagstaff, Arizona.  She has studied at The Cooper Union (BFA 2007) where she was the recipient of the Sarah Cooper Hewitt award, l’École National Supérior des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France and Yale University (MFA 2011) where she was the recipient of the Susan Whedon Award for excellence in Sculpture.  Nancy currently lives and works in Richmond, Virginia where she is a 2011-2012 Fountainhead Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University.
