Daniela Campins was raised in Maracay, Venezuela and immigrated to the United States in 1995. She earned her BFA in drawing and painting from Cal State Long Beach, and received her MFA from UC Santa Barbara in 2011. Campins recently relocated to Richmond where she is the recipient of the 2011/12 VCUarts Fountainhead Fellowship. Her drawings, mixed media collages and paintings are largely architectural in its form and contour, and yet expand to a far more deconstructive abstraction in its collapse of designated structure and space. Campins’ works explore the correlation between representation, abstraction, historical culture and personal memory.
