Donations for Creations is an event organized by a group of students in VCU’s Graphic Design department. The project is inspired by the socially conscious design attitudes and practices taught by Noah Scalin in his course Design Rebels.
Help us help Richmond! We need donated artwork, any medium and size accepted. These works will be traded at our event for food, clothes, and goods to go to the Daily Planet homeless shelter. Everyone benefits—artists and art students can get their work out to a wider audience, the public has a chance to collect art affordably, and the Daily Planet gets the supplies they desperately need this time of year.
Drop-off dates for art will be Friday November 14th, Saturday the 15th, and Sunday the 16th, from 2:00pm-8:00pm at 1005 Grove Ave. To arrange another time or for pick-up, please email us at donatecreate@gmail.com.
Thank you so much, hope to see you at our event on November 22nd @ 1509 W Main.

The Department of Sculpture + Extended Media is pleased to present a show of new works from six students at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore:
November 9 – December 1, 2008
Jamilah Abdul-Sabur
Paul Crump
Lee Freeman
Jong Sun Lee
Shane Morrissey
Claire Taylor
Closing Reception: Monday, December 1 , 4:00 pm- 7:00 pm
VCU School of the Arts Gallery
1000 W. Broad St., 1st floor
Richmond, Virginia
Jamilah Abdul-Sabur’s kinetic sculpture uses a modified electric drill to wear away blocks of vaguely aggressive text high up on the wall, while the concept of ‘rising’ is investigated with wood and rawhide constructions by Shane Morrissey that are, ironically, quite close to the ground. Claire Taylor occupies a sliver of the gallery with a cottonball embroidered with thousands of decorative high-key-colored knots, Lee Freeman’s work jumps back and forth across the perceptual line with a simple light and mirror piece, Jong Sun Lee’s installation economically blends figurative drawing and projected shadows, and Paul Crump is working out his own anti-social tendencies with a personal space generator and a sense of humor.

Drawings and Prints and Works on Paper by Tanja Softic and Holly Morrison (Faculty Painting and Printmaking)
November 5 — December 8
Opening reception Friday, November 7, 2008 from 7 to 9 PM
The Page Bond Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of drawings and prints by Tanja Softic and, works on paper by Holly Morrison. Tanja Softic’s work addresses the factors of cultural hybridity that shape the identity and world view of an immigrant: exile, longing, translation, and memory. Her contrapuntal, layered compositions function as visual signifiers of displaced existence. Holly Morrison utilizes camera and lens as a means of heightening awareness of the recognized world. She explores the territory of perception and metaphysics—using drawing as a means of seeking the invisible and making it seen. These works by Tanja Softic and Holly Morrison will be on view at the Page Bond Gallery, 1625 West Main Street, with an opening reception honoring the artists, Friday, November 7, 2008 from 7 to 9 PM. The exhibition will be on view at the gallery from Wednesday November 5 through Tuesday December 8.
